Spin the Wheel: Random Name Picker, Number Generator & Coin Flip
Up to 100 entries. The list is saved in the page link, so you can copy the link to reuse the same wheel.
How this works
Every pick uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator (crypto.getRandomValues) with rejection sampling, so each entry, number or coin face is exactly equally likely. The wheel chooses the winner first and then animates to it, so the length of the spin has no effect on the result.
Random numbers are whole numbers between the two limits, inclusive. With "No repeats" on, numbers are drawn like balls from a bag (a partial Fisher-Yates shuffle), so each set of numbers is equally likely.
Lucky draws shuffle the entry list and take the first names, so every entry has the same chance and nobody can win twice. Secret Santa reshuffles until nobody draws themselves or a keep-apart partner, which keeps every valid pairing equally likely.
Nothing is sent to a server. The wheel's names are kept in the page link so you can reuse or share the same wheel; draws and Secret Santa pairs are never saved.
FAQs
Is the spin the wheel picker really random?
Yes. With 8 names, each has exactly a 1 in 8 (12.5%) chance on every spin. The winner comes from the browser's cryptographic random generator, not from how hard or how long the wheel spins.
How do I pick a random number between 1 and 100?
Open Random number, leave From at 1 and To at 100, and press Generate. Each of the 100 numbers has a 1% chance. Set How many numbers above 1 and switch on No repeats to draw several different numbers.
Is a coin flip 50/50?
Here, yes: each flip is an independent 50:50 draw. Real coins are very slightly biased towards the side facing up at the start (50.8% in a 2023 study of 350,757 flips), which a digital flip avoids.
How does Secret Santa make sure nobody gets themselves?
It shuffles the names and only accepts a draw where everyone is matched to someone else (and not to anyone in a keep-apart pair), reshuffling otherwise. With no keep-apart pairs it takes about three shuffles on average, so the draw is instant.
Can I use this for a company lucky draw?
Yes. Paste the entries, set the number of winners and press Draw: winners come out in draw order and no one can win twice. For a public lucky draw, run it on screen so everyone can see.
