What licence should an event planner have?

  • Public Entertainment Licence (for the event)

Singapore Police Force · Optional accreditation

The planner doesn't need a licence, but public entertainment held in a place open to the public must be covered by a PEL unless exempt. Confirm whether the venue's licence covers it or who will apply.

    Check the official register
  • Class 5 Temporary Liquor Licence (for the event)

Singapore Police Force · Optional accreditation

Needed to supply liquor at a temporary event venue. Processing takes about 3 weeks.

    Check the official register
  • Temporary Change of Use permit

Singapore Civil Defence Force · Optional accreditation

Needed for events with temporary structures such as tentage, booths, stages or sound systems.

How to choose a event planner

  • Decide whether you need full planning (vendor sourcing, budget, styling) or just someone to run the day. Actual-day coordination costs a fraction of full planning.
  • Ask whether the planner earns commission from vendors they recommend, and whether you can bring your own vendors.
  • Check who handles permits for non-hotel venues, including SPF entertainment and liquor approvals and SCDF approval for tents and stages. Permits can take weeks.
  • Ask for a sample run-sheet and the names of the people on the day, including how many assistants and whether the lead planner attends.

Red flags

  • Full payment is required upfront, especially for events many months away.
  • The planner is vague about vendor commissions or insists you use their vendors only.
  • They have no plan for licences at outdoor or unusual venues.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What exactly is included, and how many hours and staff will be there on the day?
  • Do you receive commissions from vendors, and can I use my own?
  • Who applies for any police or SCDF permits, and by when?
  • What is your payment schedule and cancellation policy?

Questions about event planners in Singapore

How much does a wedding planner cost in Singapore?

Published starting prices for actual-day coordination range from about $1,000 to $4,200. Partial planning starts around $5,000, and full planning ranges from about $3,000 to over $10,000 depending on the planner. Decor and florals are usually extra, commonly $2,000–$7,000.

Do event planners in Singapore need a licence?

No specific licence is required to work as an event planner. Some events do need approvals: an SPF Public Entertainment Licence for public entertainment such as live performances, unless exempt, an SPF liquor licence to sell alcohol at a temporary venue, and an SCDF permit for temporary structures such as tents and stages.

Is a day-of coordinator worth it?

For hotel banquets, where the venue already supplies an event manager, many couples manage without one. For multi-venue days, non-hotel venues or larger guest lists, a day-of coordinator costing about $1,000–$4,000 runs the schedule, cues vendors and handles problems so family members don't have to.
