How Lookup works
Where listings come from
Every listing starts from public, openly licensed data, not scraped reviews or copied directories. Our main sources are:
- Government registers on data.gov.sg (Singapore Open Data Licence): ACRA-registered entities, SFA-licensed food establishments, NEA hawker centres, MOH CHAS clinics, ECDA preschools, HSA-licensed pharmacies, BCA-registered contractors, licensed hotels, NEA-licensed pest control operators and waste collectors.
- Overture Maps Foundation places (CDLA-Permissive-2.0) for shop and service locations and categories, plus each business’s own website for published opening hours and photos.
- OneMap (Singapore Land Authority) for geocoding addresses and finding the nearest MRT exit.
- URA Master Plan boundaries to place each listing in its planning area.
What “licence verified” means
When a business appears on a public register relevant to its trade, for example an SFA food shop licence, a CHAS clinic list or the HDB Directory of Renovation Contractors, we link that record to the listing and show a green check. We match on licence numbers and postal codes where available, and on normalised names otherwise. A missing check does not mean a business is unlicensed: many trades need no licence, and some registers are not published as open data. Always confirm on the official register for high-stakes work; every category page links to the relevant one.
How results are ordered
Within a category, listings are ordered by a score made only from verifiable signals:
- A matched licence or registration relevant to the category.
- Track record, years since ACRA registration.
- Completeness of public records, a precise address, opening hours and a geocoded location.
- Corroboration, the same business appearing in more than one independent source.
We don’t yet publish ratings. When we do, they will come only from verified Lookup users, never copied from other sites.
Featured listings
Businesses can pay to verify their listing and add contact details, photos and booking links. Paid placements are labelled “Featured”, their outbound links are marked as sponsored, and payment never changes a listing’s organic position, its licence status or our editorial content. See our editorial policy.
Price guides
Price ranges on category pages are compiled from published price lists, government sources and reputable Singapore consumer publications, cited under each table. They show typical market ranges, not quotes from any listed business.
Corrections
Data changes constantly. If a listing is wrong or a business has closed, email lookupsgweb@gmail.com and we’ll fix it, usually within two working days.
