A guide based on the going rate at each venue (package price ÷ 10), not what the couple paid. Where a venue lists a range, we use the top of it.
How this works
Wedding rates are from SingaporeBrides' Wedding Ang Bao Rates 2026 list, updated 9 June 2026: each venue's banquet package price divided by a table of 10, including service charge and GST. It is a guide to the going rate at that venue for that day and meal, not what a particular couple paid. Where a venue lists a range of packages, the calculator uses the top of the range so your gift covers the seat.
Covering your seat is the usual starting point. For close family, relatives and long-time friends, SingaporeBrides suggests adding 20% or more; a couple attending together gives for two seats. The suggestion is then rounded up to the next amount that ends in 8 and has no 4 in it, with a round-number alternative.
For an unlisted venue, enter the price per table: if it is quoted "++", the calculator adds the 10% service charge and then 9% GST on the total (×1.199), the way IRAS says GST applies to service charge.
Chinese New Year amounts are common practice in Singapore as published in YouTrip's CNY Ang Bao Rates Guide (February 2026), shown as a range per relationship. They are customs, not rules.
FAQs
How much ang bao should I give at Marina Bay Sands?
S$358 for one guest at a Marina Bay Sands wedding dinner, which covers the S$350 per-guest rate (SingaporeBrides, June 2026). A lunch there is S$290 a guest, so S$298. Close family usually add 20% or more.
What is the wedding ang bao rate for a hotel in 2026?
A Saturday wedding dinner at a Singapore hotel works out to about S$180 to S$360 a guest in 2026, with a typical rate around S$270, based on SingaporeBrides' June 2026 list. Capella (S$400 to S$430) and Raffles Singapore (S$340 to S$370) sit at the top; many Chinese restaurants and clubs are S$100 to S$200.
How much ang bao for a wedding lunch?
Wedding lunches usually cost the couple less than dinners, so the ang bao is lower: at Shangri-La Singapore a lunch is S$240 to S$270 a guest against S$270 to S$330 for dinner (SingaporeBrides, June 2026).
Which numbers should I avoid in an ang bao?
Avoid any amount with a 4 (it sounds like "death") and odd amounts, which are associated with funerals. Amounts ending in 8, such as S$188, S$288 or S$388, are popular because 8 sounds like prosperity.
How much ang bao should I give my parents for Chinese New Year?
S$188 to S$888 is the common range for parents, in-laws and grandparents in Singapore, and S$20 to S$38 for nieces, nephews and cousins, according to YouTrip's 2026 guide. These are customs, so give what you can afford.
