How this works

Each of the four PSLE subjects (English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue) gets an Achievement Level by raw mark: AL1 is 90 and above, AL2 85 to 89, AL3 80 to 84, AL4 75 to 79, AL5 65 to 74, AL6 45 to 64, AL7 20 to 44 and AL8 below 20. Foundation subjects are graded AL A (75 to 100), B (30 to 74) and C (below 30), which count as AL6, AL7 and AL8.

The PSLE Score is the sum of the four ALs, from 4 (best) to 32. Since the 2024 Secondary 1 posting, MOE uses Posting Groups under Full Subject-Based Banding: a score of 4 to 20 is Posting Group 3 (G3 subjects), 21 to 22 is Posting Group 2 or 3, 23 to 24 is Posting Group 2 (G2), 25 is Posting Group 1 or 2, and 26 to 30 is Posting Group 1 (G1) with AL7 or better in both English and Mathematics.

Posting Groups only set which schools a student can choose and the subject levels at the start of Secondary 1. Students can move individual subjects to a more or less demanding level after that.
