Grade profiles and their scores
3 H2 subjects / GP, for students who sat the A-Levels in 2025 or later, before any optional subject.
The maximum is 70 (AAA/A). Universities and courses publish indicative grade profiles of past intakes, not cut-offs, and admission is holistic. A Pass in Project Work is needed for university admission from AY2026. From AY2028 everyone is scored on the 70-point method.
How this works
Each H2 grade is worth A 20, B 17.5, C 15, D 12.5, E 10, S 5 and U 0 points. H1 subjects, including General Paper, are worth half: A 10, B 8.75, C 7.5, D 6.25, E 5 and S 2.5.
For students who sat the A-Levels in 2025 or later, the University Admission Score is out of 70: three H2 subjects plus GP. The fourth content-based subject and H1 Mother Tongue are added only if they raise the score, and the total is rebased to 70 (out of 80 with one of them, out of 90 with both). Project Work is now pass/fail and a Pass is required for university admission.
For students who sat in 2024 or earlier and apply for AY2026 or AY2027, the score is worked out on the old 90-point scale (three H2, GP, the H1 content subject and Project Work, with Mother Tongue added only if it helps) and weighted proportionately to 70. From AY2028, everyone is scored on the 70-point method.
Rules are from the NUS and NTU FAQs on the revised UAS computation (February 2026) and MOE's release of the 2025 A-Level results. Some courses add interviews, aptitude tests or subject prerequisites on top of the score.
FAQs
What is the maximum A-Level rank points now?
70. From the 2025 A-Level cohort, the University Admission Score counts three H2 subjects (60 points) and General Paper (10 points). The old maximum was 90, which also counted Project Work and an H1 content subject.
How many rank points is AAB/B?
66.25 out of 70: 20 + 20 + 17.5 for the H2 subjects and 8.75 for a B in GP. An A in the fourth content subject lifts it to 66.72, because (66.25 + 10) × 70 ÷ 80 = 66.72.
Does H1 Mother Tongue count in the UAS?
Only if it improves your score. With AAB/B, a C in H1 Mother Tongue would give (66.25 + 7.5) × 70 ÷ 80 = 64.53, lower than 66.25, so it is left out.
Is Project Work still counted?
Not for students who sat the A-Levels in 2025 or later: PW is pass/fail and a Pass is required for university admission. For those who sat in 2024 or earlier and apply for AY2026 or AY2027, the PW grade still counts on the 90-point scale.
How many rank points is AAA/A?
70 out of 70, the maximum. BBB/B is 61.25 and CCC/C is 52.5 under the 70-point method.
