How this works
The Ministry of Manpower's formula for an incomplete month of work is: monthly gross rate of pay ÷ total working days in that month × days the employee actually worked in that month. It applies to monthly-rated employees who join after the 1st, leave before month end, or take no-pay leave.
The gross rate of pay is the total payable for one month's work including allowances, but excluding overtime, bonuses and the annual wage supplement. Working days exclude rest days and non-working days but include public holidays, so a holiday falling within your employment period is paid.
This calculator counts working days from the calendar for your work pattern, with Sunday as the rest day. On a 5.5-day week the Saturday counts as half a day, since MOM treats a day of 5 hours or less as a half day. If your rest day is not Sunday, use the day count your employer uses.
FAQs
How is salary calculated if I join in the middle of the month?
Your pay is monthly gross salary × working days you worked ÷ working days in the month. Joining on Wednesday 14 October 2026 on S$4,000 with a 5-day week gives S$4,000 × 13 ÷ 22 = S$2,363.64.
Are public holidays counted as working days for prorated salary?
Yes. MOM's definition of working days for an incomplete month excludes rest days and non-working days but includes public holidays. A public holiday that falls inside your employment period is counted as a day paid.
How many working days are there in a month in 2026?
On a 5-day week, months in 2026 have between 20 and 23 working days (261 in the year), counting public holidays as working days. October 2026 has 22. On a 6-day week, months have 24 to 27.
How is no-pay leave deducted from salary?
Each day of no-pay leave is deducted at monthly gross pay ÷ working days in that month. On S$3,500 with a 5.5-day week in November 2026 (23 working days), 2 days of no-pay leave reduce pay to S$3,195.65.
Is the daily rate for prorating the same as MOM's daily rate of pay?
No. The incomplete month formula divides by the actual working days in that month. MOM's daily rate of pay for other purposes, such as public holiday work, is 12 × monthly gross pay ÷ (52 × average working days per week).
