12 October 2026 Dear [Manager's name], Resignation from the position of [your role] Please accept this letter as formal notice of my resignation from my position as [your role] at [company name]. In line with my 1 month notice period, my last day of employment will be Wednesday, 11 November 2026. I am grateful for the opportunities and support I have had during my time here. Over the coming weeks I will do my best to complete my current work and hand over my responsibilities smoothly. Please let me know how I can help with the transition. Thank you, and I wish the team continued success. Yours sincerely, [Your name]
How this works
Under MOM's rules, the notice period starts on the day you give notice, and every calendar day after it counts, including weekends, rest days and public holidays. One month's notice given on 15 July ends on 14 August. When the matching date does not exist, the period ends on the last day of that month, so notice given on 29, 30 or 31 January ends on 28 February.
If your contract does not state a notice period, the Employment Act default applies: 1 day if you have worked less than 26 weeks, 1 week for 26 weeks to under 2 years, 2 weeks for 2 to under 5 years, and 4 weeks for 5 years or more. The notice period must be the same for employer and employee.
With your employer's agreement you can offset unused annual leave against the notice period. Your last day at work moves earlier and you are paid only up to that day, and you can start a new job straight after. This calculator counts the leave back from the end of the notice, skipping Sundays, public holidays and your non-working days.
Either side can end the contract without serving notice by paying salary in lieu: the salary you would have earned during the notice period. No CPF is payable on it. This tool estimates it as monthly salary × months, or 12 × monthly salary ÷ 52 per week of notice.
FAQs
If I resign today with one month's notice, when is my last day?
Your last day is the day before the same date next month. Resigning on Monday 12 October 2026 with one month's notice makes Wednesday 11 November 2026 your last day, because the notice period includes the day you resign.
What is the notice period if my contract does not mention one?
The Employment Act default applies: 1 day under 26 weeks of service, 1 week from 26 weeks to under 2 years, 2 weeks from 2 to under 5 years, and 4 weeks from 5 years.
Do weekends and public holidays count in the notice period?
Yes. MOM counts public holidays, rest days and non-working days in the notice period, so a one-week notice given on a Monday ends on the Sunday.
Can I use annual leave to shorten my notice period?
Yes, if your employer agrees. Leave is offset against the end of the notice, so your last day at work comes earlier, but you are not paid for the leave used and are paid only up to your new last day.
How much is salary in lieu of notice?
It is the salary you would have earned during the notice period. On a S$5,000 monthly salary, one month's notice is S$5,000 and two weeks is about S$2,307.69 (12 × S$5,000 ÷ 52 × 2). No CPF is payable on salary in lieu.
