How this works
Fuel used is distance divided by consumption in km per litre (or distance x L/100km ÷ 100). Fuel cost is litres x the price you actually pay per litre, which is the pump price less any card or loyalty discount you get. Split it by the number of people sharing the car if you want a per-person cost.
Default pump prices are the list prices at the major brands in early October 2026: S$3.54 a litre for 95-octane at Caltex, Esso, Shell and Sinopec (S$3.53 at SPC), S$3.51 for 92 and about S$4.06 for 98. Pump prices change often, so overwrite the price with what you see at the station.
The JB mode compares filling up in Singapore with filling up in Johor. Singapore-registered cars cannot buy RON95 in Malaysia (the ban is enforced on drivers from 1 April 2026), so the default is the RON97 price set weekly by Malaysia's Ministry of Finance: RM5.15 a litre for 8 to 14 October 2026. The saving is netted against the extra fuel to get to the station, Singapore's checkpoint toll (S$0.80 to exit at Woodlands, S$2.10 each way at Tuas) and Malaysia's RM20 Road Charge per entry.
Singapore-registered cars must leave Singapore with at least three-quarters of a tank, so a JB top-up only ever covers the last quarter plus what you use there. The exchange rate is an editable assumption.
FAQs
How much is petrol in Singapore now?
In early October 2026, 95-octane petrol was S$3.54 a litre at Caltex, Esso, Shell and Sinopec and S$3.53 at SPC, before discounts; 92-octane was S$3.51 and 98-octane about S$4.06. Card and loyalty discounts bring the price you pay lower.
How much does petrol cost for 100 km in Singapore?
About S$25 for a car doing 14 km per litre at S$3.54 a litre: 100 ÷ 14 = 7.1 litres, x S$3.54 = S$25.29. A car doing 10 km per litre costs about S$35 per 100 km.
Is it cheaper to pump petrol in JB?
Usually, but by less than many expect: Singapore cars must buy RON97 in Malaysia, RM5.15 a litre for 8 to 14 October 2026. Filling 20 litres saves about S$38 against S$3.54 in Singapore at RM3.15 to the dollar, or about S$23 after a 30 km detour, the S$0.80 Woodlands toll and the RM20 Road Charge.
Can Singapore cars pump RON95 in Malaysia?
No. Foreign-registered vehicles are banned from buying RON95 in Malaysia, and from 1 April 2026 the driver or owner can be prosecuted, not just the petrol station. Use RON97 or higher.
What is the three-quarter tank rule?
Singapore-registered cars leaving Singapore by road must have a fuel tank at least three-quarters full, and LTA says this applies to hybrid and CNG cars too. In practice, a JB top-up can only refill the last quarter of the tank plus whatever you use in Malaysia.
