Bus and train rides in one journey are charged as a single distance fare (up to 5 transfers within 2 hours, no repeat of the same service), so a bus to the MRT does not cost a second boarding charge. Paying cash costs more than tapping a card, on every service.

How this works
Bus fares are set by the Public Transport Council (PTC) and depend on the distance between the stops where you tap in and tap out. Adult and Workfare fares rise in bands: up to 3.2 km, then every 1 km up to 40.2 km. Student and senior or PwD fares stop rising after 7.2 km. Feeder services charge the first band as a flat fare. Basic bus card fares are the same as train card fares for the same distance.
Fares in force since 27 December 2025: an adult card fare on a basic bus is S$1.28 to S$2.57 and the cash fare S$2.10 to S$3.20. Express services cost more: S$2.28 to S$3.57 by adult card and S$3.30 to S$4.10 in cash. Students pay S$0.52 to S$0.78 by card (S$1.00 to S$1.20 cash) and seniors or PwD S$0.69 to S$1.07 (S$1.40 to S$1.70 cash).
From 26 December 2026 (PTC Fare Review Exercise 2026), adult card fares rise by 12 to 13 cents to S$1.40 to S$2.70, student, senior and PwD card fares by 5 cents, adult cash fares by 20 cents and concession cash fares by 10 cents. Workfare card fares and every monthly pass price are unchanged.
Don't know the distance? Switch to number of stops: the tool multiplies by an average gap between stops (0.45 km by default, an editable assumption) to estimate it. Bus and train rides in one journey are charged as one distance fare, so transfers do not add a second boarding charge.
