A toaster browns bread with electric heating elements. A toaster oven does the same job in a small oven cavity and can also bake and reheat. Which one suits you depends on how many slices you toast, what else you want to cook and how much counter space you have.
Lookup has not tested these products. The picks below are based on published specifications and Singapore retailer or manufacturer listings, each confirmed when this page was last updated. Prices and stock change often, so check the retailer before you buy.
Toasters and toaster ovens sold in Singapore
1. Philips Daily Collection Toaster (HD2582)
Philips' Singapore site lists the HD2582/01 as a two-slot pop-up toaster with eight browning settings, an integrated bun-warming rack and a compact design. Philips also advertises a 2-year warranty on its Singapore site.
- Good for: everyday toast and warming buns.
- Limitation: two slices at a time.
2. Tefal Express Toaster with Lid (TT410D)
Courts Singapore lists the TT410D with a high-lift facility, reheat, stop and defrost functions and seven browning levels. The lid helps keep dust out when it is not in use.
- Good for: a straightforward toaster with defrost and reheat functions.
- Limitation: two slices at a time, and only black is listed.
3. Toshiba 10L Mechanical Toaster Oven (TM-MM10DZF)
Toshiba's Singapore site lists this as a mechanical toaster oven with an 800W grill, a 10L capacity, a temperature range of 70 to 230 degrees Celsius and a timer of up to 30 minutes. It is listed at Harvey Norman Singapore.
- Good for: small kitchens, toasting, reheating and simple baking.
- Limitation: the cavity is small, so it will not fit large trays.
4. Toshiba 8L Mechanical Toaster Oven (ET-TD7080)
Toshiba's Singapore site lists this as an 8L mechanical toaster oven with a 70 to 230 degrees Celsius temperature range and a 30-minute timer, in pink. A retailer listing gives a different wattage from Toshiba's page, so check the product label for the exact rating.
- Good for: one or two people who want a compact oven toaster.
- Limitation: very small capacity.
Toaster buying guide
Slots and capacity
Two slots suit one or two people. Four slots suit families but take more space. Toaster ovens trade speed for flexibility.
Browning control
Look for adjustable browning levels and a way to stop the cycle. Features such as defrost, reheat and bagel settings help if you toast different breads.
Slot width
Wide slots take thick bread, bagels and sourdough. Check the slot width if you do not buy standard sliced bread.
Cleaning and safety
A removable crumb tray makes cleaning easier. The outer shell of many toasters and ovens gets hot, so keep them away from walls and leave space around them.
Warranty
Buy a model sold with a Singapore warranty so you can claim locally.
Frequently asked questions
Toaster or toaster oven?
A toaster is faster and cheaper for plain toast. A toaster oven is slower for toast but can also bake, grill and reheat.
Are toaster ovens safe to leave unattended?
Not while in use. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, keep the oven clear of curtains and other flammable items, and unplug it after use.
How do I clean a toaster?
Unplug it, let it cool, empty the crumb tray and wipe the outside with a damp cloth. Do not put metal utensils inside to remove stuck food.
