Best Dishwashers in Singapore: Compact, Tabletop and Free-Standing Options

How to choose a dishwasher for a Singapore home: tabletop, compact or full-size, capacity and plumbing, plus three Toshiba and Bosch models sold locally.

Dishwashers are less common in Singapore homes than in the US or Europe, partly because kitchens are small and many households wash up by hand. Compact and tabletop models have made them practical for flats, though, and there are full-size built-in machines for larger kitchens.

This guide covers the main types, what to check, and three models that Singapore retailers or the manufacturer list. Our notes are based on published specifications and retailer listings. We have not tested these machines, and we do not list prices because they vary by retailer and promotion. An earlier version of this article named products we could not confirm are sold in Singapore, so we removed them.

Models worth considering

1. Toshiba Portable Dishwasher (DWS-22ASG(K))

A small countertop dishwasher with a 5L built-in tank. You can pour water in, or connect it to a tap. It is listed by Toshiba Singapore, Harvey Norman and FairPrice. Toshiba lists a 70 degree Celsius wash and a two-year warranty.

Pros

  • No plumbing installation is needed if you fill the tank by hand.
  • Suited to couples, singles and small kitchens.

Cons

  • Capacity is small. Toshiba's Singapore page gives different figures for place settings and tableware sets, so check what actually fits before you buy.
  • Colour is listed differently by different retailers, so confirm the version.

2. Toshiba Tabletop Dishwasher (DW-08T1(S)-SG)

A larger tabletop machine listed by Toshiba, Courts, Harvey Norman and Mega Furniture. Retailers list capacity for up to 8 sets, a high-temperature hygiene cycle and a self-cleaning function.

Pros

  • More capacity than the portable model.
  • Hygiene programme for bottles and baby items.

Cons

  • Needs a decent stretch of counter space and a tap connection.
  • Heavier than a portable unit, so choose a stable, level spot.

3. Bosch Series 6 Compact Dishwasher (SKS68BB008)

Bosch Singapore lists a free-standing compact dishwasher, 55cm wide, in black, with 8 programmes and options such as VarioSpeed, Intensive Zone, HygienePlus and Extra Dry. The listing says it does not support Home Connect.

Pros

  • Full-featured compact dishwasher from a major manufacturer.
  • Free-standing, so no cabinetry work is needed.

Cons

  • Costs considerably more than tabletop models.
  • Stock status differs between Bosch Singapore pages, so confirm availability with Bosch or a dealer.

Dishwasher buying guide

Type and size

  • Portable and tabletop: sit on the counter, suit small households and rented flats.
  • Compact free-standing or built-in: fit under a counter and are suited to families or those who cook often.
  • Full-size built-in: usually 60cm wide and need planning at the renovation stage.

Measure the space, including door swing and clearance for hoses, before you buy.

Capacity

Capacity is often given in place settings. Real-world capacity depends on rack design and the pots you use, so check whether your usual cookware fits.

Plumbing and drainage

Tabletop and compact models often connect to a tap and drain into the sink. Built-in machines need water inlet, drain and power points. Ask your contractor during renovation.

Wash programmes

Look for a normal programme, an eco or quick wash and a high-temperature or sanitising option. You will mostly use two or three programmes, so extra options matter less.

Drying

Many machines rely on residual heat, which is fine for most things but leaves plastics damp. If you want dry dishes, check whether the model has an extra dry option.

Noise

If your kitchen is open-plan, check the stated decibel level.

Energy and water use

Check the energy and water labels on the model. Singapore's mandatory energy labelling scheme covers some appliance types, so check whether a rating applies.

Detergent

Use dishwasher detergent only, as washing-up liquid creates foam. Many machines also need rinse aid and dishwasher salt in hard-water areas, so follow the manual.

Warranty and service

Buy from authorised retailers and confirm warranty length and local servicing.

Frequently asked questions

Is a dishwasher worth it in a small Singapore flat?

A tabletop or compact model can be if you cook often or have a family. For one or two people, hand washing may be quicker and cheaper.

Do I need to pre-rinse dishes?

Usually scrape off large food scraps only. Check the manual, since heavy pre-rinsing is generally unnecessary.

Can I put everything in the dishwasher?

No. Wooden items, some non-stick pans and delicate glassware are usually hand-wash only. Follow the manufacturer's guidance.
