Alteration prices depend on the garment, the fabric and lining, and the shop: neighbourhood tailors are cheapest, mall and studio tailors charge more, and rush jobs can cost 1.5 to 3 times the usual rate. Suit prices depend mostly on the fabric and on whether it is made-to-measure or bespoke.

Made-to-measure suits usually take two to four weeks with one or two fittings. Bespoke suits with more fittings can take longer. Allow extra time before festive seasons and weddings, and confirm the delivery date and fitting schedule when you order.
Made-to-measure adjusts an existing pattern to your measurements, which is faster and cheaper. Bespoke drafts a new pattern for you and usually involves several fittings and more handwork. Ask the tailor which they offer and what construction is used.
Raise it with the tailor in writing, with photos and your receipt, and ask for re-work or compensation. If you cannot agree, CASE can mediate, and the Small Claims Tribunals hear claims up to $20,000.
