How much do martial arts charge in Singapore?

Published and member-reported rates from 2023–2026. Big MMA chains often don't publish prices and quote after a trial. Registration fees and lock-in periods matter as much as the monthly rate.

What licence should a martial arts school have?

  • National Registry of Coaches (NROC)

Sport Singapore (CoachSG) · Optional accreditation

Voluntary register for coaches certified under the SG-Coach programme in their sport, with valid Standard First Aid and a code of ethics. Suspended or debarred coaches are published separately.

How to choose a martial arts school

  • Pick the discipline for your goal. Muay Thai and boxing are striking-based and good for conditioning, BJJ and judo are grappling with less impact to the head, and taekwondo and karate run belt-graded programmes popular with kids.
  • Attend a trial at the time you'd normally train. Check class size, how beginners are paired, and whether hard sparring is optional.
  • Ask about coaches' certification. For sports with a national federation, coaches may hold SG-Coach certification and NROC registration, and every coach should have current first aid.
  • For children, ask about grading fees and frequency, and whether gradings are recognised by a national body or are only internal to the school.
  • Compare the total commitment, including registration and grading fees and the lock-in, not just the monthly price.

Red flags

  • Beginners pushed into hard sparring in their first few weeks.
  • No mats or shared gear cleaned between classes. Skin infections such as ringworm spread easily in grappling.
  • 12-month lock-ins with no exit for injury or relocation.
  • Frequent paid gradings that seem designed to generate fees.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is there a free or paid trial, and does signing up that day change the fees?
  • What is the lock-in period, and how do I cancel or freeze for injury?
  • Are your coaches certified and first-aid trained?
  • How often are gradings, and what do they cost?
  • Is sparring optional for beginners?

Questions about martial arts in Singapore

How much do Muay Thai or BJJ classes cost in Singapore?

Adult unlimited memberships generally cost $200–$350 a month, with lower rates if you commit to 6 or 12 months. Gracie Barra, for example, lists adult BJJ at $299 a month on a 12-month plan or $349 on 6 months, plus a $100 registration fee. Drop-in classes usually cost $20–$50, and many gyms offer a free trial.

Which martial art is best for kids?

Taekwondo, karate and judo have structured belt systems that suit young children and are widely available in Singapore. BJJ teaches control without striking. Choose a coach who manages a class of children well, keeps contact age-appropriate, and holds first aid certification.

Can I check if a martial arts coach is qualified?

Partly. Sport Singapore's National Registry of Coaches lists certified coaches who hold Standard First Aid and follow a code of ethics, and you can search it on CoachSG's Find a Coach. Not every combat sport has an SG-Coach pathway, and listing is voluntary, so also ask about the coach's rank, lineage and competition record.

Is there a cooling-off period if I sign a gym contract?

Generally no. Singapore's statutory cooling-off period applies to direct sales made away from business premises, not contracts signed at the gym. Read the lock-in and cancellation terms before signing, and avoid paying a full year upfront.
