Interior Designers in Singapore: 593 interior designers · 3-room BTO typically S$36,100–S$43,700 per flat

Updated October 2026How we rank
Most HDB interior design firms in Singapore are design-and-build: they design, then subcontract the works. Since 2025 data puts 4-room HDB renovations at about $51,000–$80,000, choose a firm that is HDB-registered (DRC) for the building works and, ideally, CaseTrust-accredited so your deposit is capped at 20% and bonded.

What licence should an interior designer have?

  • Directory of Renovation Contractors (DRC)

Housing & Development Board (HDB) · Required by law

The firm (or the contractor it uses) must be DRC-listed to carry out renovation works in an HDB flat. Interior design itself is not licensed, but the building works are.

  • CaseTrust accreditation for renovation businesses

Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) · Optional accreditation

Deposit capped at 20% and protected by a performance bond, standard renovation contract, milestone payments and a minimum 12-month workmanship warranty.

How to choose a interior designer

  • Shortlist by portfolio of completed (not 3D-rendered) homes of your flat type and age, and ask to speak to a past client.
  • Ask for an itemised quotation with quantities, materials and brands; compare it with at least two other firms using the same brief.
  • Clarify whether the design fee is separate or bundled, and how many revisions of drawings are included.
  • Check the firm's CaseTrust status and HDB DRC listing, and who will be the site supervisor day to day.
  • Agree on a timeline with handover date, and how delays caused by the firm are handled.

Red flags

  • Large 'package' discounts that disappear once the quotation is itemised.
  • Portfolio made up mostly of 3D renders rather than completed homes.
  • Requests for a big upfront deposit before drawings are finalised.
  • Reluctance to put verbal promises (materials, timelines, warranty) into the contract.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Is your firm CaseTrust-accredited and listed in HDB's Directory of Renovation Contractors?
  • Which works do you do in-house and which are subcontracted?
  • What is your payment schedule, and what deposit do you require?
  • Who is my project manager, and how will progress be reported?
  • What warranty do you give for carpentry, waterproofing and electrical works?

Questions about interior designers in Singapore

Should I hire an interior designer or a contractor directly?

An interior design firm handles design, drawings, coordination and supervision, which suits owners with little time or complex layouts. Going to a contractor directly is usually cheaper but you manage the design and the trades yourself. Either way, the firm doing building works in an HDB flat must be in HDB's Directory of Renovation Contractors.

How much does interior design cost for a 4-room HDB?

Qanvast's 2025 data puts total renovation costs for a 4-room BTO at about $51,000–$61,800 and a 4-room resale flat at about $64,300–$80,300. Most Singapore ID firms bundle the design fee into the renovation quote. Carpentry is often the largest line item, at roughly $180–$360 per foot run for laminate kitchen cabinets.

How do I avoid interior design deposit scams?

Keep the initial deposit low and tie later payments to completed milestones. CaseTrust-accredited firms cap initial deposits at 20% of the total and must buy a deposit performance bond that protects it if the business closes. Check the firm on CASE's accredited list and on HDB's renovation contractor directory before signing.

Is RenoTrust the same as CaseTrust?

We could not find an official scheme called RenoTrust. The recognised consumer scheme for renovation firms is CASE's CaseTrust accreditation for renovation businesses, including a joint CaseTrust–RCMA scheme for members of the Singapore Renovation Contractors and Material Suppliers Association. Verify any claimed accreditation on CASE's list of accredited businesses.
