How to choose a home care provider

  • Get a means-test through AIC first. Subsidies for home and day care were up to 80% for citizens to June 2026, and MOH announced higher subsidies and a higher income ceiling from July 2026.
  • Match the service to the need: a caregiver for bathing, feeding and companionship; a nurse for wound care, injections or tube feeding.
  • Ask whether the same caregiver will come each time, and how replacements are handled.
  • Apply for the Home Caregiving Grant if the person needs permanent help with at least three of six activities of daily living: $600 a month at household income per person up to $1,500, $400 up to $3,600 and $200 up to $4,800.

Red flags

  • A 'nurse' who cannot show proof of nursing registration.
  • Large upfront prepayments for long service packages.
  • No written care plan or incident reporting.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Are your nurses registered, and what training do your caregivers have?
  • Will the same caregiver come each time?
  • What is the minimum booking, and what are the ad-hoc versus recurring rates?
  • Are you an AIC-linked provider, so that subsidies apply?
