Buying stationery in bulk can cut costs for offices, schools, event organisers and resellers. An earlier version of this article listed specific shops with addresses and closing times. Shops move, change hours and stop trading, and I could not verify those details, so this guide covers what to look for instead.
Types of wholesale stationery suppliers
- Local wholesalers and distributors: these stock pens, paper, files and notebooks, and often sell to both businesses and walk-in customers. Some are distributors for established brands such as Pilot, Pentel, Artline, Zebra and Maped.
- Office supplies companies: these also supply furniture, printing paper, pantry items and equipment, and usually offer corporate accounts with delivery.
- Novelty and craft wholesalers: these suit party favours, gift packs, school prizes and event goodie bags.
- Online marketplaces and stores: Lazada, Shopee and company websites are convenient for small bulk orders, but check the seller's ratings and return terms.
- Industrial-area warehouse shops: many wholesalers operate from industrial buildings, often with limited hours and weekday-only service. Call ahead.
What to compare
- Price per unit at your quantity. Ask for a written quote at the quantity you need, not just the headline price.
- Minimum order quantity. Some wholesalers sell by the carton or box only.
- GST. Check whether quoted prices include GST, especially for corporate purchases.
- Delivery. Ask about delivery charges, lead time and whether there is a free-delivery threshold.
- Brand and authenticity. For branded items, ask whether the supplier is an authorised distributor.
- Returns and damaged goods. Know the policy before paying a large deposit.
- Payment terms. Corporate buyers may be able to request invoicing or credit terms.
Tips for buying in bulk
- Standardise on a few products so you can negotiate better pricing.
- Order samples first for items such as pens and notebooks, where quality varies.
- Check expiry or ink age on markers and highlighters when buying large cartons.
- Compare at least three quotes. Prices for the same item can vary noticeably between suppliers.
- Confirm business hours and whether walk-ins are accepted before travelling to a warehouse.
Finding a supplier
Lookup's directory lists stationery and office supply businesses by area. Check each business's current address, hours and ordering terms with the business directly before you place an order.
