How to choose a yoga studio

  • Match the style to your goal. Hatha and yin are slower and suit beginners, vinyasa and ashtanga are more athletic, and hot yoga runs in rooms of about 35–40°C, which isn't for everyone.
  • Try two or three studios on trial or drop-in rates before committing. Teaching quality varies more between teachers than between brands.
  • Check teacher credentials. Yoga Alliance RYT-200 or RYT-500 is the common baseline, but it is a private registry, not a Singapore licence.
  • Favour cancellable monthly plans or small packs over annual prepayment. True Yoga and Yoga Inc. members lost unused packages when both closed in September 2026.
  • If you have injuries, are pregnant or have high blood pressure, look for smaller classes or specialist teachers, and avoid hot yoga until you have medical clearance.

Red flags

  • Pressure to buy a 12- or 24-month membership at a 'one-time' discount.
  • Class packs that expire within weeks, with no freeze option.
  • Teachers who don't ask about injuries or pregnancy before class.
  • Overcrowded classes where mats touch and the teacher can't see everyone.

Questions to ask before you book

  • How long are class packs valid, and can they be frozen or transferred?
  • Which classes suit complete beginners?
  • What training and experience do your teachers have?
  • Are mats and towels provided, or do they cost extra?
  • Can I pay monthly rather than upfront for an unlimited plan?

Questions about yoga studios in Singapore

How much is a yoga class in Singapore?

At commercial studios, a single drop-in class usually costs about $30–$50. Packs bring this down to roughly $25–$30 a class, and unlimited monthly memberships at chains cost about $200–$280. Community centres and ActiveSG run cheaper classes, and many studios offer a discounted first class or free trial.

What happened to True Yoga and Yoga Inc.?

True Yoga, part of True Singapore Group with True Fitness, was placed under provisional liquidation on 10 September 2026, and all its outlets closed immediately. Yoga Inc. also closed in September 2026. By 30 September, CASE had received 1,518 complaints about True Fitness and True Yoga involving about $3.78 million, and 92 about Yoga Inc. involving about $32,800. Affected customers can contact CASE at 6277 5100.

Is hot yoga safe?

For most healthy adults it is, if you hydrate and rest when you feel dizzy. Hot rooms raise heart rate and the risk of overstretching. Check with your doctor first if you are pregnant or have heart conditions or blood pressure problems, and start with shorter or non-heated classes.

Do yoga teachers in Singapore need to be certified?

No licence is required to teach yoga in Singapore. Most reputable studios hire teachers with at least a 200-hour training (often registered with Yoga Alliance as RYT-200), plus extra training for pre-natal, therapeutic or aerial yoga. Ask the studio about each teacher's training if this matters to you.
