What licence should a rooftop bar have?

  • Liquor Licence

How to choose a rooftop bar

  • Check the dress code – many rooftop venues refuse shorts, singlets or slippers in the evening.
  • Ask about minimum spend or cover charges for window or edge tables, especially around sunset and on event nights.
  • Check weather policy: some rooftops close open-air areas during rain without refunds on deposits.
  • Happy hours are usually early evening; confirm whether prices are nett or "++".

Questions about rooftop bars in Singapore

Can you smoke at rooftop bars in Singapore?

Only in approved smoking corners. NEA prohibits smoking in all areas of entertainment outlets, including outdoor refreshment areas, except approved smoking corners. NEA stopped accepting applications for new outdoor smoking corners from 30 June 2017, so many rooftop bars are fully non-smoking.

What is the drinking age at rooftop bars?

18. Licensed sellers cannot sell alcohol to or let anyone under 18 drink on their premises. Some venues set a higher minimum entry age, so bring ID.

What does "++" mean on a Singapore menu?

"++" means a 10% service charge and 9% GST will be added. GST is charged on the service charge too, so the multiplier is 1.1 × 1.09 = 1.199 – a $50++ meal costs about $59.95. IRAS lets restaurants that levy a service charge show pre-GST prices, but they must state prominently that prices are subject to GST and service charge.
