Pet Cremation in Singapore: 3 pet cremation services compared

Updated October 2026How we rank
NEA's waste-to-energy plants are not designed to cremate dogs and cats, so AVS tells owners of large pets to use a commercial animal crematorium. Burying a pet in a public area, including near your HDB block, is not allowed. After a cat or dog dies, you must cancel its licence on AVS's PALS.

How to choose a pet cremation service

  • Ask whether the cremation is individual (only your pet, ashes returned) or communal (no ashes returned), and get it in writing.
  • Ask whether you can witness the cremation, and how the remains are identified throughout.
  • Confirm what the price includes: collection from home or vet, urn, memorial service and timing.
  • Keep the vet's death certificate or the cremation invoice; you can upload either to PALS when cancelling the licence.

Red flags

  • Vague answers on whether the ashes returned are only your pet's.
  • No itemised price, or extras added on collection day.
  • Suggestions to bury the pet in a public park or HDB grounds, which is not permitted.

Questions about pet cremation in Singapore

What do I do when my dog or cat dies in Singapore?

Contact your vet or a commercial animal crematorium. AVS advises owners of large pets such as dogs and cats to use commercial animal crematoriums, because NEA's waste-to-energy plants are not designed for them. You must then cancel your pet's licence on AVS's PALS, uploading the death certificate or cremation invoice.

Can I bury my pet in Singapore?

Only on your own private property or land. Burying animal carcasses in public places, including parks and the grounds around HDB blocks, is not permitted under the Environmental Public Health (Public Cleansing) Regulations. Small pets such as hamsters, fish or birds can be securely double-bagged and placed in general waste, or cremated.

Can I get a post-mortem for my pet?

Yes, but since 1 January 2025 carcasses for post-mortem at AVS's Centre for Animal and Veterinary Sciences must be submitted by a referring vet, not the public. Results can take up to five weeks and go to your vet. You can ask on the consent form for the remains to be returned for cremation or burial.
