What licence should a facial salon have?

  • Healthcare Services Act licence (for medical aesthetic procedures)

How to choose a facial salon

  • Decide whether you need a beautician or a doctor. Persistent acne, pigmentation or scarring is better assessed by a dermatologist or aesthetic doctor than treated with repeated salon facials.
  • Treat the trial price as a trial: go in having decided not to buy a package that day, and leave your card in your bag.
  • Ask what is in the facial (cleansing, extraction, mask, machine) and how long the hands-on time is; 90 minutes can include a long sales consultation.
  • If you buy a package, choose a CaseTrust-accredited business and keep the insurance certificate.
  • Check that extraction tools are sterilised and that the therapist wears gloves.

Red flags

  • Any salon offering Botox, fillers or "skin booster" injections; only doctors may administer these health products.
  • "Your skin is very bad" scare tactics followed by a large package offer.
  • Packages worth thousands of dollars or lasting years.
  • Unlabelled creams or ampoules claimed to contain steroids, "whitening" or prescription-strength ingredients.

Questions to ask before you book

  • What exactly does this facial include, and how long is the treatment itself?
  • Is the trial price conditional on buying a package?
  • Are you CaseTrust-accredited and is my package insured?
  • Which products will be used, and can I see the labels?

Questions about facial salons in Singapore

How much does a facial cost in Singapore?

Budget salons charge about $38–68 for a basic or express facial and around $78–150 for a deep-cleansing facial with extraction. Premium spa facials can exceed $200. Clinic hydration facials such as HydraFacial typically cost $270–380 per session, with lower per-session pricing for packages. First-trial offers are often around half the usual price.

Can beauty salons do Botox or fillers in Singapore?

No. Botulinum toxin and dermal fillers are health products that must be registered with HSA and administered by a registered doctor. In 2021, a non-doctor who gave Botox and filler injections at her Jurong beauty salons was sentenced to 10 weeks' jail and fined $16,000 under the Health Products Act and Medical Registration Act.

Is a beauty salon or aesthetic clinic better for my skin?

For maintenance and relaxation, a salon facial is fine. For acne that does not settle, melasma, scarring or anything needing prescription creams, lasers or injectables, see a doctor at an MOH-licensed clinic. Salons cannot prescribe or diagnose, and repeated aggressive extraction can worsen inflamed acne.

How do I avoid being pressured into a facial package?

Decide your budget before the visit, decline on the day, and ask for the offer in writing to consider at home. Pressure selling is an unfair practice under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act; CASE reported that about one in five beauty complaints in 2025 involved unfair practices such as pressure sales and misleading claims.
