How to choose a dentist

  • CHAS cardholders should check the per-procedure subsidy before booking. From 1 October 2025, CHAS Blue gets up to $30 off scaling, $50 off a complex filling, $584.50 off a molar root canal and $615 off a crown. CHAS Green gets no dental subsidy.
  • For basic care on a budget, SingHealth polyclinics charged adult citizens $52.60–89.20 for scaling and polishing (June 2026), but waits for non-urgent work can be long.
  • For wisdom teeth, ask whether the removal is surgical. Surgical removal of an impacted tooth can be claimed from MediSave up to MOH's limits; a simple extraction cannot. Ask the clinic for the claimable amount in writing.
  • For braces or Invisalign, ask whether the dentist is a registered orthodontic specialist and get an all-in quote that includes X-rays, scans, refinements and retainers.
  • Seniors aged 60 and above can use Flexi-MediSave (up to $400 a year) for root canal treatment and permanent crowns at CHAS dental clinics and public institutions, from mid-2026.

Red flags

  • Pressure to commit to aligners, veneers or implants on the first visit, before X-rays and a written treatment plan.
  • A quote that leaves out X-rays, scans, retainers or follow-up reviews, which are often billed separately.
  • Large prepaid packages for routine care such as scaling.
  • The dentist is not on SDC's register.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Are you a CHAS clinic, and what will I pay after my CHAS subsidy?
  • Is this extraction surgical, and how much can I claim from MediSave?
  • Is the dentist doing my braces or aligners a registered orthodontist?
  • What exactly does the quote include: X-rays, scans, refinements, retainers?
  • What happens, and what does it cost, if the filling or crown fails?

Questions about dental clinics in Singapore

How much does scaling and polishing cost in Singapore?

MOH's benchmark for CHAS private clinics is $35–60 for scaling plus $26–38 for polishing, before GST. SingHealth polyclinics charged adult citizens $52.60–89.20 including GST in mid-2026. With a CHAS card, the subsidy is up to $30 for scaling and $20.50 for polishing (Blue), or $40 and $30.50 for Pioneer Generation. CHAS Green gets no dental subsidy.

Can I use MediSave for wisdom tooth removal?

Yes, if it is a surgical removal, such as an impacted tooth needing bone removal or tooth division. Simple extractions are not claimable. The amount is capped by MOH's surgical table, so ask the clinic for the procedure code and claimable amount. For reference, public hospitals charged unsubsidised patients $794–1,407 on average for impacted wisdom tooth surgery under local anaesthesia in 2025.

How much do braces and Invisalign cost in Singapore?

Conventional braces for both jaws averaged $3,921–6,400 at public hospitals for unsubsidised patients in 2025. Invisalign runs from about $3,000 to $10,000 or more, with most full cases at $7,500–10,000, and retainers add about $600–1,000. Orthodontics is not on the CHAS dental list and is treated as elective, so budget to pay in cash.

What changed for CHAS dental subsidies in October 2025?

From 1 October 2025, CHAS Orange cardholders became eligible for subsidies on ten basic and preventive procedures, including consultation, scaling, X-rays, fillings and extractions. Limits for seven restorative procedures, such as root canal treatment, crowns and dentures, were also raised for Pioneer, Merdeka, Blue and Orange cardholders. CHAS Green is still not eligible for dental subsidies.

How much is a dental implant in Singapore?

Public hospitals charged unsubsidised patients an average of $4,835–6,168 per implant with crown in 2025, excluding consultation, X-rays and scans. Private clinics vary widely, and bone grafts or sinus lifts add to the bill. Ask for an itemised quote covering the implant, abutment, crown, CT scan and reviews before you start.
