A rice cooker heats the inner pot and switches to keep-warm once the water has been absorbed, so the rice comes out evenly cooked without watching the stove. Models range from simple one-button cookers to "fuzzy logic" or "micom" cookers that adjust heat and timing during the cycle.
Lookup has not tested these products. The picks below are based on published specifications, price range and what buyers say about them. Each model was confirmed as listed by Panasonic Singapore or a Singapore retailer such as Harvey Norman, Courts or FairPrice when this page was last updated. Prices and stock change often, so check the retailer before you buy.
Rice cookers sold in Singapore
1. Tefal Rice Mate Mini 0.7L (RK5151)
A compact cooker for one or two people. Retail listings describe a 0.7L capacity, eight cooking programmes, a 24-hour preset timer and up to 12 hours of keep-warm. It suits small kitchens and hostel or studio use.
- Good for: singles, couples, small counters.
- Limitation: 0.7L is not enough for a family meal or guests.
2. Tefal Easy Rice and Slow Cooker Plus 1.8L (RK736B)
A 1.8L (10 cup) cooker with a spherical non-stick pot. Harvey Norman Singapore lists 11 programmes, including white, jasmine, brown and glutinous rice and congee, plus slow cooking for up to 8 hours and keep-warm for up to 12 hours.
- Good for: families who also want congee and slow-cooked dishes.
- Limitation: more buttons than a basic cooker, so expect a short learning curve.
3. Tefal Easy Fuzzy Logic Rice Cooker 1.8L (RK7321)
A 1.8L fuzzy logic cooker sold at Courts Singapore. Fuzzy logic means the cooker adjusts temperature and time during the cycle rather than running a fixed program.
- Good for: small to medium families who want a mid-range fuzzy logic cooker.
4. Tefal Easy Compact Fuzzy Logic Rice Cooker 1L (RK7301)
The 1L version of the same range, also listed at Courts Singapore. A sensible size for two to three people.
- Good for: couples and small households.
- Limitation: 1L fills up quickly if you cook for guests.
5. Zojirushi 0.54L Micom Fuzzy Logic Rice Cooker (NS-LAQ05)
Zojirushi's smallest micom cooker, listed at FairPrice Singapore. The 0.54L pot cooks up to about 3 cups of rice. It sits at the premium end for its size, so it makes sense if you care about rice texture more than capacity.
- Good for: one or two people who eat rice daily.
- Limitation: small capacity and a higher price than basic cookers of the same size.
6. Panasonic 5 Cup Rice Cooker (SR-CN108WSH)
Panasonic Singapore's specification page lists a 1.0L capacity, a 700W heater, a 12-hour keep-warm function and 16 menu options.
- Good for: small to medium households that want a mainstream brand with local support.
- Limitation: 1.0L suits up to about five cups of rice.
Rice cooker buying guide
Capacity
Match the pot to your household. Under 1L suits one or two people. Around 1.8L (10 cups) suits families. A cooker run well under its capacity may cook less evenly, so do not oversize.
Cooking settings
Check for white, brown, glutinous or sushi rice and congee settings if you cook those. Slow-cook and steam functions are a bonus, not a necessity.
Fuzzy logic or micom
These cookers adjust heat and time during the cycle and generally cost more than basic cookers. They help most if you cook different rice types or care about texture. A basic one-button cooker is fine for everyday white rice.
Keep-warm
Keep-warm lets you hold rice at serving temperature. Long periods can dry or yellow the rice, so use it for hours, not days.
Build and cleaning
Look for a non-stick inner pot that lifts out for washing, a removable steam vent or lid parts, and a warranty from a Singapore distributor so you can claim locally.
Frequently asked questions
Which rice cooker brands are common in Singapore?
Zojirushi, Panasonic, Tefal, Philips, Tiger and Cuckoo are widely available through Singapore retailers. Availability of specific models varies, so check before choosing.
What size rice cooker should I get?
Roughly 0.5L to 1L for one or two people, and 1.8L for a family of four or more. Rice cooker "cups" are usually 180ml, not the standard 240ml measuring cup.
Are expensive micom cookers worth it?
Mostly if you are particular about rice texture or cook several rice types. For plain white rice, a mid-range or basic cooker does the job.
