Every vet clinic in Singapore must hold an AVS veterinary centre licence, and every vet an AVS licence to practise. A basic consultation costs about $25–65 at neighbourhood clinics (June 2026), core vaccines $14–90 a shot, and cat sterilisation from about $185. All pet cats and dogs must be licensed with AVS.

- **Licence to operate a veterinary centre** (Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), NParks, required): Any clinic or animal hospital must be licensed by AVS, be under the control of a veterinary surgeon at all times, and is subject to AVS inspection. ## How to choose
- Check the clinic is on AVS's public registry of licensed veterinary centres; the list is updated several times a year.
- Ask for the consultation fee and the weekend or evening surcharge up front. The same consult can be $35 on a weekday and $50 on a weekend at one clinic.
- For surgery, get an itemised estimate covering anaesthesia, blood tests, medication and the cone, not just the headline sterilisation price.
- Find your nearest 24-hour or emergency vet before you need one; after-hours surcharges of $150–500 on top of treatment are common.
- If your pet dies and you want a post-mortem, it must be submitted by a referring vet; AVS's lab no longer accepts submissions from the public (from 1 January 2025).

## Red flags
- The clinic is not on AVS's registry of licensed veterinary centres.
- Vague verbal estimates for surgery with no written breakdown.
- Pressure to buy large prepaid wellness packages on the first visit.
