Singapore has no government vegetarian or vegan certification, so "vegetarian" is the restaurant's own claim. Chinese vegetarian stalls often also exclude onion and garlic, while Indian vegetarian food usually includes dairy. ### Is there vegetarian certification in Singapore?
No. SFA licenses food outlets for food safety but does not certify vegetarian or vegan claims, so 'vegetarian' is the operator's description. If you avoid eggs, dairy, onion or garlic, ask the restaurant directly how dishes are prepared and whether equipment is shared with meat.

### Is vegetarian food halal in Singapore?
Not automatically. Vegetarian dishes may use alcohol-based seasonings, and only MUIS can certify an outlet as halal. Check the MUIS directory or MuslimSG app for certified vegetarian restaurants.

### What happened to the A, B, C, D hygiene grades in Singapore?
From 19 January 2026 SFA replaced the annual A–D hygiene grade with the SAFE framework. Outlets now get A (more than three years with no major lapse), B (one to three years), NEW (operating under a year) or C (a court conviction for a food-safety offence or a licence suspension under the demerit-points system). Scan the QR code on the SFA licence at the counter to see the current grade.
