## How this works
Your FIRE number is the portfolio that can fund your spending indefinitely: yearly spending ÷ withdrawal rate. At a 4% withdrawal rate that is 25 times a year's spending, so S$4,000 a month (S$48,000 a year) needs S$1.2 million in today's dollars. A lower rate, such as 3.5% (about 28.6x), is more cautious for early retirees.

Everything is worked in today's dollars. Your return is turned into a real return, (1 + return) ÷ (1 + inflation) − 1, so 5% returns with 2.5% inflation grow your savings by about 2.44% a year in buying power. Your current savings and a monthly saving that rises with inflation are projected to your retirement age and compared with the target.

Coast FIRE is the amount you need invested today so that, with no further saving, it grows to your FIRE number by your retirement age: FIRE number ÷ (1 + real return)^years. Once you pass it, you only need to earn enough to cover today's spending.

CPF LIFE is optional. Enter the payout CPF's estimator shows; the calculator converts it to today's dollars and subtracts it from the spending your portfolio must fund. Payouts start from 65 and can be deferred to 70. If you retire before they start, the target adds enough to cover those years. Returns, inflation and the withdrawal rate are assumptions you can change, not forecasts.

## FAQs
### How much do I need to retire in Singapore?
Using the 4% rule, about 25 times your yearly spending. Spending S$4,000 a month in today's dollars means a target of S$1.2 million; S$3,000 a month means S$900,000. CPF LIFE payouts reduce the amount your own savings must cover.

### Am I on track to retire at 60?
With the default example (age 35, S$150,000 saved, S$1,500 saved a month, 5% returns, 2.5% inflation, S$4,000 a month spending) the projection reaches about S$891,000 in today's dollars by 60, short of the S$1.2 million target. Saving about S$2,250 a month would close the gap; at the current rate, the target is reached at about 68.

### What is Coast FIRE?
The amount you need invested now so that growth alone reaches your FIRE number by retirement. For a 30-year-old aiming to retire at 65 on S$3,000 a month, with a 2.44% real return, Coast FIRE is about S$387,000.

### Should I include CPF LIFE in my retirement plan?
Yes, if you know your estimate. CPF LIFE pays a monthly income for life from 65 (or up to 70 if you defer). In the default example, a CPF LIFE payout of S$1,500 a month from 65 lowers the target from S$1.2 million to about S$1.03 million in today's dollars.
