## How this works
O-Level grades score A1 = 1, A2 = 2, B3 = 3, B4 = 4, C5 = 5, C6 = 6, D7 = 7, E8 = 8 and F9 = 9 points. For JC admission in the 2027 JAE, L1R5 adds your First Language (English or a Higher Mother Tongue), your best Humanities subject (R1), your best Mathematics or Science subject (R2), one more Humanities, Mathematics or Science subject (R3) and your two best remaining subjects (R4, R5). The calculator tries every combination and keeps the lowest. Religious Knowledge cannot be counted, and a Higher Mother Tongue and Mother Tongue cannot both be used.

To be eligible for JC, L1R5 gross must be 20 or less, with English at A1 to C6, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics at A1 to D7, and Mother Tongue at A1 to D7 (or Higher Mother Tongue at A1 to E8). Up to 4 bonus points come off for posting: 2 for an Excellent CCA grade (1 for Good), 2 for English and Higher Mother Tongue at A1 to C6, 2 for Chinese or Malay (Special Programme) or Bahasa Indonesia at A1 to C6, and 2 for applying to an affiliated JC. Millennia Institute uses L1R4 (First Language, two Humanities, Mathematics or Science subjects, and two best others) of 20 or less.

The SEC (Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate) replaces the O-Level from the 2027 exams. For admissions from 2028, JC will use L1R4 at G3 level of 16 or less, with bonus points capped at 3, and MI an L1R4 of 20 or less.

## FAQs
### What L1R5 do I need for JC?
An L1R5 gross aggregate of 20 or less, plus the subject grade requirements (English A1 to C6, Maths A1 to D7, Mother Tongue A1 to D7). Most JCs admit at net scores well below 20; MOE's SchoolFinder lists each JC's range from the last JAE.

### How is L1R5 calculated?
Add the points of English (or Higher Mother Tongue), one Humanities, one Maths or Science, one more Humanities, Maths or Science, and your two best other subjects. For example A2 English, B4 Social Studies with Geography, A1 Maths, A2 Chemistry, A2 Additional Maths and B3 Chinese gives 2 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 2 + 3 = 14.

### How many bonus points can I get for JC?
Up to 4 points: 2 for an Excellent CCA grade (1 for Good), 2 for English and Higher Mother Tongue at A1 to C6, 2 for Chinese or Malay (Special Programme) or Bahasa Indonesia, and 2 for an affiliated JC. With an Excellent CCA, an L1R5 of 14 becomes a net 12.

### What is L1R4 for Millennia Institute?
English or Higher Mother Tongue, two best subjects from Humanities, Maths or Science, and two best other subjects. It must be 20 or less for MI.

### Does L1R5 still apply after the O-Level ends?
No. The 2026 O-Level is the last; students sit the SEC from 2027, and from 2028 admissions JC will use L1R4 at G3 of 16 or less, with bonus points capped at 3.
