## How this works
Train fares in Singapore depend only on distance. The Public Transport Council (PTC) charges a trip on the shortest rail distance between the station where you tap in and the one where you tap out, whatever route you take. Adult and Workfare fares rise in steps: one band up to 3.2 km, then a new band every 1 km up to 40.2 km. Student and senior or PwD fares stop rising after 7.2 km.

Fares in force since 27 December 2025: adult card fares run from S$1.28 (up to 3.2 km) to S$2.57 (over 40.2 km); students pay S$0.52 to S$0.78; seniors and persons with disabilities S$0.69 to S$1.07; Workfare cardholders S$0.78 to S$1.87. Tap in before 7.45am on a weekday (not a public holiday) and every card fare is 50 cents lower.

PTC's 2026 fare review raises card fares from 26 December 2026: adults pay 12 cents more for trips up to 3.2 km and 13 cents more beyond that (S$1.40 to S$2.70); student, senior and PwD fares rise by 5 cents; Workfare fares and monthly pass prices do not change. Switch the fare table to see either set.

The distance is an estimate. We take LTA's fare distances between neighbouring stations (refined against LTA's distances along each line) and add them up along the shortest route; in a check of 50 random journeys it matched LTA's own figure to within 0.1 km for 46 and 0.2 km for all. When a trip sits within 0.1 km of a fare band edge, the tool shows both possible fares. Travel time is a rough guide: about 2 minutes per stop and 5 minutes per interchange.

## FAQs
### How much is the MRT fare in Singapore?
An adult card fare is S$1.28 to S$2.57 per trip, depending on distance, under the fares in force since 27 December 2025. A trip up to 3.2 km costs S$1.28; Punggol to Dhoby Ghaut (13.9 km) costs S$2.02. Tapping in before 7.45am on a weekday takes 50 cents off.

### How much is the student and senior MRT fare?
Students pay S$0.52 to S$0.78 by card and seniors and persons with disabilities pay S$0.69 to S$1.07; both stop rising after 7.2 km. Workfare Transport Concession cardholders pay S$0.78 to S$1.87. All are 50 cents lower when tapping in before 7.45am on a weekday.

### Are MRT fares going up in December 2026?
Yes. From 26 December 2026 adult card fares rise by 12 cents (up to 3.2 km) or 13 cents (longer trips), to S$1.40 to S$2.70. Student, senior and PwD card fares rise by 5 cents. Workfare card fares and all monthly pass prices stay the same.

### Is the MRT fare cheaper in the morning?
Yes. If you tap in before 7.45am on a weekday that is not a public holiday, your train card fare is 50 cents lower, so a short adult trip costs S$0.78 instead of S$1.28. It applies to the train fare only, not buses.

### Do I pay more if I change trains or take a longer route?
No. Train fares are charged on the shortest rail distance between your entry and exit stations, whichever lines you ride, and transfers between bus and train within one journey do not add a boarding charge.
