## How this works
The minimum occupation period (MOP) is the time you must live in your home before you can sell it on the open market, rent out the whole unit or buy a private property. The end date is the same calendar date a set number of years after the start: key collection for a new flat, resale completion for a resale flat, or the project's Temporary Occupation Permit (TOP) for an executive condominium.

Standard (and older, unclassified) HDB flats have a 5-year MOP, new or resale. Plus and Prime flats, launched from the October 2024 sales exercise, have a 10-year MOP, new or resale, and the whole flat can never be rented out; Prime Location Public Housing (PLH) flats sold before that follow the same 10-year rule. Plus, Prime and PLH resales also carry subsidy recovery and buyer conditions.

Executive condominiums on land tendered before 8 May 2026 have a 5-year MOP from TOP: owners can then sell to citizens and PRs, and from year 11 to anyone. For EC sites whose tender closed on or after 8 May 2026, the MOP is 10 years and full privatisation comes after 15 years. Time you didn't live in the flat can push the MOP later; HDB's My Flat Dashboard shows the official date.

## FAQs
### How long is the HDB MOP?
5 years for Standard and unclassified flats, whether bought new or resale. Plus and Prime flats (launched from October 2024) and PLH flats have a 10-year MOP. Executive condos have a 5-year MOP, or 10 years for sites tendered from 8 May 2026.

### When does the MOP start?
On the day you collect your keys for a new flat, or the resale completion date for a resale flat. For an executive condominium it starts from the project's TOP date. Keys collected on 15 November 2021 means a 5-year MOP ends on 15 November 2026.

### Can I rent out my whole HDB flat after the MOP?
Yes for Standard and unclassified flats, after the 5-year MOP and with HDB's approval. Plus, Prime and PLH flats can never be rented out as a whole, even after their 10-year MOP.

### When can an EC be sold to foreigners?
After 10 years from TOP for ECs on land tendered before 8 May 2026, when the unit becomes fully private. For EC sites tendered from 8 May 2026, the MOP is 10 years and the unit is fully privatised after 15 years.
