# Countdown Timer, Stopwatch and Countdown to Singapore Holidays

A free online countdown timer with alarm, a stopwatch with laps, and a live countdown to Singapore public holidays, National Day, Chinese New Year or any date.

## How this works
The timer and stopwatch read your device clock (Date.now()) every time the display updates, rather than counting ticks, so they stay accurate when the tab is in the background or the phone is busy. The timer stores the moment it should end; pausing saves the time left. The alarm is a short chime made with the Web Audio API in your browser, so nothing is downloaded and the page keeps working offline once loaded. Press the space bar to start or pause.

Countdown to a date counts to midnight Singapore time (UTC+8) at the start of the chosen day, or to any time you set. The Singapore presets come from the public holidays gazetted by the Ministry of Manpower for 2026 and 2027. Name your countdown and copy the link to share it: the date, time and name are kept in the link.

## FAQs
### When is the next public holiday in Singapore?
The next public holiday after mid October 2026 is Deepavali on Sunday 8 November 2026, so Monday 9 November is a holiday in lieu. Christmas Day follows on Friday 25 December 2026, then New Year's Day on Friday 1 January 2027.

### When is Chinese New Year 2027 in Singapore?
Chinese New Year 2027 falls on Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February 2027, so Monday 8 February 2027 is a public holiday in lieu, giving a three-day weekend. Pick the Chinese New Year preset above for a live countdown.

### When is National Day 2027?
National Day 2027 is on Monday 9 August 2027, which makes a long weekend from Saturday 7 August. In 2026 it fell on a Sunday, so Monday 10 August 2026 was the holiday in lieu.

### Will the timer keep running if I switch tabs or lock my phone?
Yes, the timer keeps time while the tab is in the background because it compares against your device clock. Browsers may delay or mute the sound while a phone is locked or in silent mode, so keep the page open and the volume up for an alarm you must hear.
