# Spas in Somerset

Day spas in Singapore range from $55–69 for an hour's body massage at neighbourhood spas to $150–350 at hotel spas. Beauty was CASE's most-complained-about industry in 2025 (2,113 complaints) and again in the first half of 2026, so favour CaseTrust-accredited spas, whose prepaid packages must be insured.

## Prices in Singapore
Indicative per-session prices from published menus, 2024–2026. Packages lower the per-session price but carry closure risk; always check whether GST is included.

| Service | Typical price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 60-min body massage, neighbourhood spa | S$55–S$69 per session | Happy-hour and weekday off-peak rates at the low end |
| 60-min body massage, branded chain | S$68–S$117 per session | |
| 60-min treatment, hotel or luxury spa | S$150–S$350 per session | |
| Facial at a day spa | S$78–S$235 per session | Machine-based facials (e.g. microdermabrasion) cost more |

## Licences
- **Massage Establishment Licence** (Singapore Police Force, required): Required if the spa provides massage. Spas offering only services with no massage component (e.g. manicure, pedicure, baths, light or vapour treatments) are exempt. Check: https://www.police.gov.sg/Business-E-Services/Apply-for-Massage-Establishment-Licence
- **CaseTrust Accreditation for Spa and Wellness Businesses** (Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE), optional): Voluntary accreditation. Accredited spas must protect prepayments with insurance (you receive a certificate showing the protected sum) and give at least five working days' cooling-off for a full refund of unused services. ## How to choose
- Check the CaseTrust list before buying any package; accredited spas must insure your prepayment, and their insurance broker contacts customers if the business closes.
- Ask for the full menu with nett prices. Hotel spas often add service charge and GST on top of listed prices.
- Book a single treatment first and judge the therapist, hygiene and how hard they upsell before committing.
- For skin treatments involving lasers, injections or prescription products, go to an MOH-licensed aesthetic clinic, not a spa.
- Read the package terms: expiry dates, whether sessions are transferable, and whether unused sessions are refundable.

## Red flags
- Being steered into a package "consultation" during a promotional trial treatment.
- Spa staff offering injectables such as Botox or fillers; these are HSA-registered health products and non-doctors have been jailed for administering them.
- Refusal to put package terms or the total price in writing.
- Very long-dated packages (years of sessions) or requests to pay in cash only.

## FAQs
### How much does a spa day cost in Singapore?
A 60-minute body massage costs about $55–69 at neighbourhood spas and $68–117 at branded chains, based on 2024–2026 menus. Hotel and luxury spas typically charge $150–350 per hour-long treatment, often before service charge and GST. Facials at day spas start around $78 and rise past $200 for machine-based treatments.

### Is it safe to buy a spa package in Singapore?
It carries real risk. CASE reported $2.13 million in beauty-industry prepayment losses in 2025, and over $1.9 million in the first half of 2026 alone, after closures such as Wan Yang and Royal Secrets Wellness. If you buy one, choose a CaseTrust-accredited spa, which must insure prepayments, keep the package small and pay by credit card.

### What is CaseTrust accreditation for spas?
It is a voluntary scheme run by the Consumers Association of Singapore. Accredited spa and wellness businesses must buy prepayment protection insurance so customers can recover the unused value of packages if the business closes, issue a certificate showing the protected sum, and offer at least five working days' cooling-off for a full refund. Check the official list at casetrust.case.org.sg.

### What can I do if a spa pressured me into buying a package?
Pressure selling is an unfair practice under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act. Contact CASE (6277 5100) for advice and mediation; you can also file a claim at the Small Claims Tribunals for amounts up to $20,000. The Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore takes enforcement action against persistent offenders.
