# Physiotherapists in Singapore

Physiotherapy is one of only five allied health professions regulated by Singapore's Allied Health Professions Council. Every practising physiotherapist must be on the AHPC register, which you can search on MOH's Professional Registration System. Chiropractic, massage and 'sports therapy' are not AHPC-regulated, so check which one you are actually booking.

## Prices in Singapore
Private rates depend on session length, the physiotherapist's seniority and add-ons such as shockwave therapy. Subsidised community rehabilitation costs less but needs a hospital or polyclinic referral and is means-tested.

## Licences
- **Physiotherapist registration** (Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC), required): Physiotherapists must be registered with AHPC to practise. ## How to choose
- Search the physiotherapist's name on the AHPC register before your first session.
- Ask whether the clinic specialises in your problem, such as sports injuries, post-surgery rehab, back pain or women's health.
- Expect an assessment and a home-exercise plan, not just passive treatments such as massage or machines.
- If you have insurance or a corporate plan, ask whether you need a doctor's referral for claims.

## Red flags
- The therapist is not on the AHPC register but calls themselves a physiotherapist.
- Pressure to buy a large prepaid package before an assessment.
- Treatment that is all passive (massage, machines) with no exercises or progress measures.

### How do I check if a physiotherapist is registered in Singapore?
Search the Allied Health Professionals register on MOH's Professional Registration System, which AHPC links to as its official register. Physiotherapists must be registered with AHPC to practise. If someone offering 'physio' is not listed, they may be a massage or sports therapist instead, and those are not AHPC-regulated.

### Is a chiropractor the same as a physiotherapist?
No. Physiotherapy is regulated by the Allied Health Professions Council, whose five regulated professions are physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, diagnostic radiography and radiation therapy. Chiropractic is not on that list, so chiropractors are not registered by AHPC.
