# Pet Relocation & Transport in Singapore

Bringing a dog or cat into Singapore needs an AVS import licence ($50) and a pet licence first. Quarantine depends on the origin country's rabies risk: none from Australia, New Zealand, Ireland or the UK, and at least 30 days at the Animal Quarantine Centre from Schedule III countries, at $36–44 a day from 1 December 2026.

## Licences
- **AVS-recognised pet agent** (Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), NParks, optional): Import and export applications for personal pets must be made by the owner or an AVS-recognised pet agent. Agents must meet AVS criteria including at least a year of animal transport experience and pet-handling training. Inclusion is not an AVS endorsement. Check: https://avs.nparks.gov.sg/outreach/resources/avs-recognised-pet-agents/
- **Licence to import dogs and cats (personal)** (Animal & Veterinary Service (AVS), NParks, required): Must be obtained before arrival, after the pet's dog or cat licence; costs $50 and is valid for 90 days.

## How to choose
- Use an agent from AVS's list of recognised pet agents, and get a written timeline of vaccinations, blood tests and paperwork.
- Check your origin country's schedule early. Schedule II and III pets need a rabies blood test at least 90 days (and within 12 months) before export, so start months ahead.
- Confirm the breed is allowed: Pit Bull types, Akita, Boerboel, Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Neapolitan Mastiff, Tosa, Presa Canario and their crosses are banned, as are first- to fourth-generation Bengal and Savannah cats.
- Check your new home allows the pet: HDB flats allow up to two cats and one dog from the approved-breed list.
- Book AQC quarantine space as soon as the serology result is ready, as demand is high.

## Red flags
- An agent not on AVS's recognised pet agent list who offers to handle your import permit.
- Promises that quarantine can be skipped for a Schedule III country.
- No mention of the rabies serology timing for Schedule II or III origins.

## FAQs
### How long is pet quarantine in Singapore?
It depends on the origin. Pets from Schedule I countries (Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and the UK) need no quarantine if fully compliant. Schedule II pets (including the USA, Japan and most of Western Europe) can skip quarantine under certain conditions, otherwise they serve at least 10 days at home or at the AQC. Schedule III pets serve at least 30 days at the AQC.

### How much does pet quarantine cost in Singapore?
AVS's Animal Quarantine Centre charges per pet per day: $26 (fan) or $35 (air-conditioned) from 1 December 2025, rising to $36 and $44 from 1 December 2026. Applications submitted before 1 December 2025 keep old rates. Add $75 for transport to the AQC and $68 for the arrival rabies vaccination where required. Thirty days in air-conditioning at 2026 rates is over $1,300.

### Do I need an agent to bring my pet to Singapore?
No. Owners can apply for the import licence themselves through the GoBusiness Licensing Portal. If you use an agent, AVS requires it to be an AVS-recognised pet agent. You must license the dog or cat on AVS's PALS before applying for the import licence, and the pet must be ISO-microchipped and at least 12 weeks old.
