# Pet-Friendly Cafes in Singapore

Since 1 January 2025, any cafe or restaurant can let diners bring pets to its outdoor seating without extra SFA approval. Pets are allowed indoors only at cafes holding an SFA pet café licence – required when pet food is served. Halal-certified outlets cannot admit dogs, and hawker centres remain off-limits to pets.

## Key facts

- Median years in business: 20

## Licences
- **Pet Café Licence** (Singapore Food Agency (SFA), optional): Needed only if the outlet serves pet food or lets pets indoors. Not required for pets in outdoor refreshment areas since 1 Jan 2025. Check: https://go.gov.sg/sfa-track-records

## How to choose
- Ask whether pets are allowed indoors or only in the outdoor area; indoor access requires an SFA pet café licence.
- Check for shade and fans in outdoor areas – Singapore heat is hard on dogs, especially brachycephalic breeds, from late morning.
- Ask whether the cafe has a pet menu; cafes serving pet food must keep pet and human food preparation separate.
- Keep dogs leashed and off tables and chairs; SFA encourages outlets to post signs marking pet-allowed areas.
- Avoid halal-certified outlets with dogs – MUIS conditions prohibit pet dogs on certified premises, including outdoor seating.

## Red flags
- Pets allowed indoors at a cafe without a pet café licence.
- No handwashing facilities or sanitiser near the pet seating area.

## FAQs
### Are dogs allowed in cafes in Singapore?
Yes, in outdoor refreshment areas. From 1 January 2025, SFA no longer requires food outlets to get extra approval or a pet café licence for pets in outdoor seating, as long as they do not serve pet food. Pets indoors are allowed only at outlets with an SFA pet café licence.

### What is a pet café licence?
It is an SFA licence that allows pets inside food premises. It is required for outlets that serve pet food, which must separate human and pet food preparation and storage and use separate containers. Outlets without it may only allow pets in outdoor areas.

### Can I bring my dog to a halal cafe or hawker centre?
No. Halal-certified premises cannot admit pet dogs, including in outdoor areas, and hawker centres and their outdoor areas remain closed to pets island-wide.
