# Personal Trainers in Singapore

Personal training in Singapore costs about $90–$180 a session with an experienced trainer, $30–$90 with a newly certified one, and $180 or more with a private-studio specialist. Personal trainers need no licence, so check their certification and Standard First Aid. Buy a single paid trial or a 10-session pack, not a 30-session block.

## Prices in Singapore
Rates as of mid-2026 for a session of about one hour. Packages usually cut the per-session price by around 10%, and gym-based PT is often on top of a gym membership.

| Service | Typical price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Newly certified trainer | S$30–S$90 per session | |
| Experienced trainer | S$90–S$180 per session | |
| Gym-chain PT (e.g. Fitness First) | S$80–S$150 per session | Plus gym membership; Fitness First tiers start from $76 |
| Freelance or condo-gym trainer | S$70–S$150 per session | |
| Home or mobile trainer | S$160–S$200 per session | Travel fee may be extra |
| Small-group or semi-private training | S$40–S$80 per person per session | |
| Private-studio specialist | S$180–S$350 per session | |

## Licences
- **National Registry of Exercise Professionals (NREP)** (Sport Singapore (CoachSG), optional): Voluntary national register for exercise professionals, searchable alongside the National Registry of Coaches. Listed professionals must hold valid Standard First Aid. Personal trainers do not need a licence to practise. Check: https://coachsg.sportsingapore.gov.sg/nroc/find-a-coach

## How to choose
- Check certification on the issuer's website. Recognised certifications such as ACE, NASM, ISSA, ACSM or NSCA can be verified online, and a current CPR/AED or Standard First Aid certificate matters if you have health risks.
- Pay for one trial session before buying a package. A free 'consultation' that ends in a sales pitch is not the same as seeing how they coach.
- Pick a trainer whose clients look like you. Rehab after injury, pre- or post-natal training, older adults and powerlifting are different specialisms.
- Ask where you'll train. A condo gym or ActiveSG gym ($2.50 per entry) can be much cheaper than PT that requires a $120–$250 monthly gym membership on top.
- A good trainer writes a programme, tracks progress, and teaches you to train on your own eventually.

## Red flags
- Pushing a 30-session block upfront. At $120 a session that is about $3,600 with little protection if the trainer or gym disappears.
- Packages that expire before you can realistically use them, or that can't be refunded or transferred.
- Selling supplements or meal plans on commission, or giving medical-sounding diet advice beyond their training.
- Vague or unverifiable certifications.

## FAQs
### How much does a personal trainer cost in Singapore?
As of 2026, an experienced personal trainer typically charges $90–$180 for an hour-long session, a newly certified trainer $30–$90, and a private-studio specialist $180–$350 or more. Small-group sessions cost about $40–$80 per person. Training twice a week with a mid-range coach works out to roughly $720–$1,600 a month.

### Do personal trainers in Singapore need a licence?
No. There is no government licence for personal trainers. Sport Singapore runs voluntary registries, the National Registry of Exercise Professionals and the National Registry of Coaches, searchable via CoachSG's Find a Coach. Otherwise, check the trainer's certification with its issuer and ask to see a current first aid or CPR/AED certificate.

### Should I buy a large personal training package?
Be careful. Prepaid packages are usually unprotected if the trainer quits or the gym closes. The True Fitness liquidation in September 2026 left members with unused packages, and CASE received over 1,500 complaints. Start with a paid trial, then buy no more than about 10 sessions at a time, and get the refund and expiry terms in writing.
