# Gyms in Museum

The cheapest gym in Singapore is an ActiveSG gym: $2.50 per entry for adult residents ($1.50 for students and seniors) or a $30 monthly peak pass, with no contract. Commercial chains typically cost $90–$265 a month on 12–18 month contracts. After True Fitness collapsed in September 2026, avoid paying more than a few months upfront.

## Prices in Singapore
Monthly prices below are typical 2025–2026 rates before joining, admin and access-card fees, which can add to your first month. Chains often price by branch and contract length, so the same brand can cost different amounts at different outlets.

| Service | Typical price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| ActiveSG gym, per entry (adult resident) | S$2.50 per entry | $1.50 for students and seniors; payable with ActiveSG credits |
| ActiveSG MyActiveGYM peak pass (adult 18–54) | S$30 per month | $160 for 6 months, $300 for 12 months; $18/month for students (12–17) and seniors (55+) |
| ActiveSG off-peak pass (weekdays before 4pm) | S$15 per month | $80 for 12 months; excludes public holidays |
| 24/7 Fitness | S$90–S$110 per month | Contracts from 1 to 12 months; per-entry passes about $10–$15 |
| Anytime Fitness | S$105–S$125 per month | Franchise pricing varies by club; 12–18 month contracts common |
| Pure Fitness | S$210–S$250 per month | Premium clubs with classes and towels included |

## Licences
- **CaseTrust accreditation (Fitness Centres)** (Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE), optional): Voluntary scheme. Accredited fitness centres must protect membership, package and session fees paid in advance (fees worth under two months of service are exempt), so you can claim unused prepayments if the business closes. Check: https://casetrust.case.org.sg/Home/casetrustlist
- **National Registry of Exercise Professionals / National Registry of Coaches** (Sport Singapore (CoachSG), optional): Voluntary national registers. Listed trainers and coaches hold recognised certification, current Standard First Aid (CPR/AED) and follow a code of ethics. There is no compulsory licence for gyms or gym instructors. ## How to choose
- Work out your cost per visit. The ActiveSG $30 peak pass only beats paying $2.50 per entry from 12 visits a month, and a $120 chain membership costs $10 a visit if you go three times a week.
- Pick the gym nearest your home or office, and visit at the hour you'll actually train. Packed squat racks at 7pm are a common reason people stop going.
- Prefer month-to-month or monthly-debit plans over paying 12 or 24 months upfront. Lump-sum prepayments are what members lost when True Fitness and Yoga Inc. closed in 2026.
- Ask whether the gym is CaseTrust-accredited for fitness centres, which requires prepayments to be protected. Most gyms are not, so check the CASE register yourself.
- Read the cancellation, freeze and relocation clauses before signing. Ask for the notice period, any early-termination fee, and whether a medical certificate or overseas posting lets you exit.

## Red flags
- Pressure to sign a multi-year package on the spot, or a 'today-only' price. Former True Fitness members said they were pitched multi-year renewals shortly before the 2026 closure.
- A contract that auto-renews for another full term unless you cancel in writing within a narrow window.
- Large upfront payments with no prepayment protection, especially from a chain cutting outlets or opening hours.
- Joining or 'admin' fees that only appear after you've agreed to a monthly price.

## FAQs
### How much is a gym membership in Singapore?
As of 2026, commercial gym chains typically charge about $90–$125 a month for budget 24-hour gyms such as 24/7 Fitness or Anytime Fitness, and $210–$265 a month for premium clubs such as Pure Fitness or Virgin Active. Joining and admin fees are usually extra. ActiveSG gyms are far cheaper: $2.50 per entry for adult residents, or $30 a month for unlimited access.

### How much does an ActiveSG gym cost?
Adult Singapore residents pay $2.50 per entry, and students and seniors pay $1.50. The MyActiveGYM pass costs $30 a month for peak access at any time, or $15 a month for weekday off-peak access before 4pm. Students aged 12–17 and seniors 55 and above pay $18 a month for the peak pass. Longer passes cost $160 for 6 months and $300 for 12 months. ActiveSG credits can be used to pay for entry.

### What happens to my prepaid gym package if the gym closes?
Usually you become an unsecured creditor in the liquidation and may recover little. After True Fitness and True Yoga were placed under provisional liquidation on 10 September 2026, CASE received over 1,500 complaints involving about $3.78 million in losses. Contact CASE (6277 5100) to lodge a claim. If you paid by credit card, also ask your bank whether you can dispute the charge for services not delivered.

### Is there a cooling-off period for gym contracts in Singapore?
Generally no. Singapore's statutory cooling-off period covers direct sales made away from the business's premises and timeshare contracts, not memberships you sign at the gym. Your cancellation rights depend on the contract you sign. In October 2026, CASE proposed a mandatory cooling-off period for high-value prepaid packages, but this was not law at the time of writing. Read the terms before signing.

### Do I need to be a member to use an ActiveSG gym?
Yes. You need a free ActiveSG account to enter, and passes are for members aged 12 and above. Entry is paid through the ActiveSG app, using ActiveSG credits or your card, and some gyms set their own rules for younger users, so check before you go.
