## How to choose
- Compare the price at checkout, not the price on the listing. Timed delivery, location surcharges and peak-day surcharges are added at the end and can add $15–$30 or more to a $60 bouquet.
- Check the same-day cut-off before you order. Most florists stop taking same-day orders between noon and 5pm, and the cut-off is often earlier on weekends and Sundays.
- For a wake, give the florist the full address, including the void deck block number or the funeral parlour hall, plus the name of the deceased and the wording for the ribbon. Most people send a standing flower stand rather than a round wreath, so say which one you want.
- For a wedding, ask whether the hotel package already includes table centrepieces and a backdrop before you order separate florals. Order early for peak wedding months, which florists say are roughly April–June and September–November.
- Ask for a photo of the actual arrangement before it is sent out. Arrangements are made by hand, and blooms are often substituted when stock runs short.

## Red flags
- The florist won't tell you the total, including peak-period surcharges, before you pay. Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, Chinese New Year and Christmas are the usual surcharge dates.
