A dermatologist in Singapore is a doctor accredited as a dermatology specialist by the Singapore Medical Council. You can check this on MOH's professional register. Many 'skin' and aesthetic clinics are run by GPs, which is legal, but they are not dermatologists. For eczema, psoriasis, suspicious moles or severe acne, see an accredited specialist.

What you pay depends on whether you are a subsidised patient at the National Skin Centre (referred from a polyclinic) or a private patient, and on the doctor's seniority. Medication, tests and procedures are charged on top of the consultation.

- **Specialist registration (dermatology)** (Singapore Medical Council, required): Only doctors on SMC's Register of Specialists for dermatology may call themselves dermatologists. ## How to choose
- Search the doctor on MOH's Professional Registration System and confirm 'Dermatology' appears as their specialty.
- For medical skin conditions, such as eczema, psoriasis, chronic hives or skin cancer checks, go to a dermatologist rather than an aesthetic clinic.
- For subsidised specialist care at public institutions, start with a polyclinic or CHAS GP, who can refer you.
- Ask what the consultation fee covers and what any procedures, biopsies or creams will cost.

## Red flags
- A doctor described as a 'skin specialist' or 'aesthetic specialist' who is not on SMC's specialist register for dermatology.
- Before-and-after photos or testimonials in the clinic's ads, which SMC's Ethical Code prohibits.
- Pressure to buy cosmetic packages when you came in for a medical skin problem.

Search the doctor's name on MOH's Professional Registration System (Singapore Medical Council). Doctors accredited as specialists show their specialty, such as dermatology. Aesthetic medicine is not a recognised specialty, so a doctor whose clinic offers skin treatments is not necessarily a dermatologist.
