## Prices in Singapore
A 28-day live-in nanny is the main cost. Her experience, whether she comes through an agency or is freelance, festive periods such as Chinese New Year, and twins all push the fee up. A Malaysian nanny also adds the MOM levy, insurance and transport.

## Licences
- **Work Permit for confinement nanny** (Ministry of Manpower, required): Required to employ a foreign confinement nanny. She must be Malaysian, at least 23 and below 70; the employer must be 21 or older with a newborn under 4 months. Valid up to 16 weeks from birth and not renewable. Check: https://www.mom.gov.sg/passes-and-permits/work-permit-for-confinement-nanny
- **Employment Agency licence (if you use an agency)** (Ministry of Manpower, required): Agencies placing confinement nannies must be MOM-licensed; check them on the EA Directory. Check: https://www.mom.gov.sg/eservices/services/Employment-agencies-and-personnel-search

## How to choose
- Apply for the Work Permit early. Its validity runs from your baby's date of birth, so applying after the birth shortens it.
- If you use an agency, check its licence and demerit points on MOM's EA Directory.
- Agree in writing on dates, duties (baby care, confinement meals, light housework), rest time, and what happens if the baby arrives early or late.
- Budget for the levy ($60 a month for a citizen baby, otherwise $300) and medical insurance on top of her fee.
- Ask for references from recent families, especially for twins or premature babies.

## Red flags
- A nanny or agent suggesting she work without a Work Permit, or on a social visit pass.
- An agency not on MOM's EA Directory.
- Asking her to also work at another household, such as a relative's. She may only work at your residence.

## FAQs
### Do I need a Work Permit for a confinement nanny?
Yes, for a foreign confinement nanny. MOM's Work Permit for confinement nanny is only for Malaysians aged 23 to below 70. The employer must be at least 21 with a newborn under four months. The permit lasts up to 16 weeks from the baby's birth, cannot be renewed, and the nanny may only work at your residence.

### How much is the levy for a confinement nanny?
The levy is $60 a month if your newborn is a Singapore citizen, or $300 a month if not. If you also employ a domestic helper, the levies are combined and deducted by GIRO. You must also buy medical insurance; policies starting on or after 1 July 2023 need at least $60,000 of annual cover.

### Can my maid be my confinement nanny?
Your domestic helper can help with the baby as part of household work under her own Work Permit. A separately hired confinement nanny from Malaysia needs her own confinement nanny Work Permit and levy. You cannot ask either worker to work for another household.
