# Aesthetic Clinics in Orchard

Medical aesthetic treatments in Singapore are doctor territory. They must be done by an SMC-registered doctor at an MOH-licensed clinic. SMC's Ethical Code bans before-and-after photos, testimonials and time-limited deals in doctors' advertising, and 'aesthetic specialist' is not a recognised title, so a clinic marketing itself that way is breaking the rules.

## Prices in Singapore
Aesthetic prices depend mostly on how much product is used (units of botulinum toxin or syringes of filler), the area treated, the doctor and how many sessions you need. Most clinics quote after a consultation, which may be charged separately.

| Service | Typical price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Botulinum toxin, one upper-face area (forehead, frown lines or crow's feet) | S$180–S$750 per area | Guide ranges of $180 to $750 by area; one dermatology clinic lists $350 for one area |
| Botulinum toxin, jaw slimming (masseter) | S$450–S$1,200 per session | Usually 40 to 60 units; one clinic lists from $700 |
| Hyaluronic acid filler | S$700–S$800 per 1 ml syringe | Starting price; larger areas such as chin or jawline can reach $1,600 to $2,400 |
| Pico laser | S$150–S$800 per session | Depends on area and condition; one clinic lists PicoSure PRO at $650 |
| HIFU skin tightening (Ultraformer) | S$800–S$2,000 per session | One clinic's published list; varies by area and severity |

## Licences
- **Medical registration and Practising Certificate** (Singapore Medical Council, required): The doctor performing your procedure must be registered with SMC. Aesthetic medicine is not a recognised specialty, so doctors may only describe themselves using SMC-approved designations. Check: https://prs.moh.gov.sg/prs/internet/profSearch/main.action?hpe=SMC
- **Outpatient Medical Service licence** (Ministry of Health (Healthcare Services Act), required): The clinic must be MOH-licensed, and SMC requires that the practice be licensed for the procedures it offers. Liposuction is a separately approved specified service under outpatient medical and ambulatory surgical centre licences.

## How to choose
- Check the doctor on SMC's register and look at their actual qualifications. Because aesthetic practice is not a recognised specialty, 'aesthetic specialist' or similar titles are misleading.
- Expect a proper consultation. SMC requires doctors to screen for body-image or psychological conditions, explain side effects beyond the common ones, and tell you what results are realistic.
- For invasive or surgical procedures, expect a cooling-off period between consent and treatment; it should be longer for procedures needing deep sedation or general anaesthesia.
- Ask whether the procedure has good evidence. SMC says aesthetic treatments must be shown to be effective and safe, not merely harmless.
- Be wary of anyone who is not a doctor offering injections or other medical procedures.

## Red flags
- Before-and-after (or even 'after-only') photos in the clinic's advertising. SMC prohibits these.
- Time-limited promotions, free or discounted treatments, credit-card tie-ups or gifts to get you to sign up. SMC prohibits these inducements.
- Patient testimonials, celebrity associations or 'glamour' marketing in the clinic's own ads.
- Same-day pressure to proceed with an invasive treatment, or a refusal to put risks in writing.
- Procedures offered to under-18s without an independent assessment that it is in their interest.

## FAQs
### Can a beauty salon do Botox or fillers in Singapore?
Injectable treatments are medical procedures. SMC's Ethical Code requires doctors offering aesthetic procedures to do them in a practice licensed to provide them. A beauty salon or therapist who is not a doctor offering injections is a serious red flag. Check that the person treating you is on SMC's register and that the clinic is MOH-licensed.

### Is there such a thing as an aesthetic specialist in Singapore?
No. SMC states that aesthetic practice is not a recognised specialty, and doctors must not mislead the public into thinking they are specialists in aesthetic medicine. Doctors may only describe themselves using SMC-approved designations. A dermatologist or plastic surgeon is a registered specialist; a GP doing aesthetic work is not, however experienced.

### Why don't Singapore aesthetic clinics show before-and-after photos?
SMC's Ethical Code bars doctors from using before-and-after, or even only 'after', images in medical advertising, because individual cases create unjustified expectations. Advertising must also be factual and must not be laudatory, use testimonials, or offer time-limited discounts or gifts. Clinics that do these things are not following the doctors' code of conduct.

### Is there a cooling-off period for aesthetic procedures?
For the more invasive and surgical aesthetic procedures, SMC requires a reasonable cooling-off period between giving consent and having the treatment, longer for procedures needing deep sedation or general anaesthesia. Doctors must also disclose lower-probability risks than for conventional medicine, because aesthetic treatments are not medically necessary.
